Fox News, the number one cable news network in the United States, just hired a conservative reality star to be part of their “fair and balanced” coverage. Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson was hired by the network as the announcement was made on Thursday.
Robertson, one of the stars of the controversial Duck Dynasty reality show, was hired by Fox News to serve as a regular contributor and host a podcast on Fox News Radio, as reported by The Daily Beast on March 31. Robertson is a vocal supporter of Republican front runner Donald Trump, while his father, fellow Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, has thrown is support to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. The younger Robertson will start with Fox News on April 4 with the launch of his podcast, while his debut as a contributor has not yet been announced.
In 2013, the Duck Dynasty family came under fire when Phil Robertson was interviewed by G.Q. Magazine and asked what, in his mind, was considered “sinful.” “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there,” Robertson said, continuing, “Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Robertson was temporarily suspended by the A&E who hosts the show, after a massive backlash and protesters from viewers. Just weeks later, the suspension was lifted and the show continued to be a ratings success .
