If you’ve never been to a Brazilian Steakhouse, you’re in for the treat of your life! Fogo de Chao is as authentic as it gets.
This is a meat lover’s paradise. WARNING: You will be in a self-induced meat coma at the end of your meal! You’ll want to stop eating, but you can’t. They use very high quality meats that are cooked perfectly on long skewers that look like swords.
Fogode Chao use a stoplight coaster method. If you flip the coaster to the green side, the servers will flock to your table to offer you the cut they happen to have on their sword. If you flip the coaster to red, they will leave you in peace.
If green, they will arrive at your table with the meat, lamb, chicken, sausage, etc all on their swords. They will then slice off as little or as much as you’d like.
However, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s first start with their salad bar. It rivals some of the best salad bars you have ever seen. They have just about everything you can imagine for that perfect salad.
When you arrive back at your table from the salad bar, you will notice that the servers have placed plates of cheese bread puffs, fried sweet plantains, mashed potatoes, and French fries at your table. These are great, but don’t fill up on these too much so you can leave room for the main event… world class meats, sausages, leg of lamb, pork chops, lamb chops, bacon wrapped chicken, etc.
However, before we embarked on our meat journey, I decided to try their shrimp cocktail. This is my go-to appetizer and these did not disappoint. They were large and flavorful. Our plate came with six large shrimp but I decided to stop eating after just two… again, to leave room for the main event.
I was going to try to list out all the different types of meat they offer, but there were so many that I simply can’t. I can however tell you that my two favorites were the Picanha (this is a very popular cut of beef in Brazil but little known in the U.S. Butchers in the U.S. refer to this meat as rump cover or rump cap) and the Fraldinha (bottom sirloin). I almost forgot… the garlic infused filet mignon was off-the-charts crazy good.
When you visit Fogo de Chao, go hungry… really hungry. Consider Fogo de Chao a high-end steakhouse sit-down buffet with exceptional food and service.
A few words about service… you will have a primary server at your table, but you will be visited by at an army of at least 10 other people! You will have people filling your water, others removing dirty plates and providing clean ones, others refreshing the plates of bread and sweet plantains, others bringing you food, etc. It was controlled chaos where everything flowed smoothly and efficiently in an otherwise frenetic setting. One word can describe the service… extremely impressive!! If you have a favorite dish, just ask your server and he/she will make sure you get what you want almost immediately.
This is a great place to bring a friend or family member for any occasion. I will guarantee that they will remember the visit to Fogo de Chao more than any gift you could buy them!
