The Flyers vs. Capitals live stream online and televised game will lead the way on the ice Thursday night as the 2016 NHL playoffs continue. This will be Game 1 between the two teams, with a visiting Philadelphia team trying to grab an early upset win at Washington. The Capitals finished out the regular season 56-18-8, which earned them 120 points and was the best record in either conference. That gives them home ice advantage throughout the playoffs and based on the fact they are top two in the league in goals per game and goals against, it seems to point towards an easy path to the Stanley Cup. Philadelphia tries to disprove that notion as the 2016 NHL playoffs live stream and TV coverage of Game 1 arrives via NBC Sports Network.
The ESPN.com website reported on April 14 that Alex Ovechkin may be the man that Philadelphia looks to shut down in this series. Ovechkin scored five goals and gave out five assists in a seven-game series between these two squads back in 2008. He led the league in goals as he’s coming off a 50-goal season, the seventh of his career, so he should continue to be a scoring threat in many aspects of the game. A win for Washington could come down to whether Ovechkin’s teammates Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov are able to step up and contribute.
The Philadelphia Flyers, who finished the regular season at 41-27-14, were able to split their season’s matchups against the Capitals 2-2. The most recent game took place in Philly, with the Flyers winning 2-1 on a shootout. The Flyers were also able to win at Washington on Jan. 27, 4-3 in overtime, with Jakub Voracek scoring twice in the win. Right wing Wayne Simmonds led the team with 32 goals this season, so he may also be one to watch as they try to steal tonight’s game on the opponent’s ice. The two teams also feature two of the top 10 goaltenders this past season in Braden Holtby and Michael Neuvirth, so this could be an interesting defensive battle.
Vegas Insider lists tonight’s moneyline favorite as Washington with a price of -215 to -240 at various books. Philadelphia is listed as a +170 to +195 underdog. The over/under goals total for this first round game is five goals. On the future odds, the Capitals lead all teams in terms of best chances to win the Stanley Cup at odds of 7 to 2. The Philadelphia Flyers are listed last of all playoff contenders with odds of 50 to 1 to win it all.
