The Florida vs. George Washington live stream online and televised 2016 NIT basketball game arrives Wednesday night from Washington, D.C. as part of the tournament quarterfinals. The No. 2 and No. 4 seeds will compete at the Charles E. Smith Center for a chance to move on. The Gators very nearly qualified for the Big Dance this season, but instead will try to get the consolation prize of an NIT championship, but the Colonials want the same thing and will have a home court advantage. Will it be the SEC or the Atlantic 10 that grabs tonight’s win to advance to the next round of play? The 2016 NIT live streaming and televised game action comes via ESPN networks on Wednesday evening.
According to the Atlantic 10 website in their March 22 report, the Colonials come into this matchup off an 87-71 win over Monmouth this past Monday. The team never trailed in that game and four of their players scored 76 of the team’s points. That included high-scorer Tyler Canaugh with 22 points, as well as Patricio Garino, Kevin Laren and Joe McDonald, each with 19. As a team, they nearly shot 52 percent from the floor and held the No. 1 seed home team to 34.2 percent shooting. The team currently has 25 wins which is the school’s second-best win total ever, trailing only the 2005-06 team which had 27 wins. They’ll look to add a 26th win on this season with a postseason NIT win over an SEC team that was close to getting into the NCAA Tournament.
The Gators recorded a 74-66 win in their most recent game, taking down Ohio State of the Big Ten conference. Dorian Finney-Smith had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win, with his team shooting 45.3 percent for the game and outrebounding the Buckeyes 43-35. Florida never trailed in that game, and looked rather unstoppable in their first win of the tournament as well. In that game, the Gators put up 97 points to North Florida’s 68, with the halftime score 57-25 in favor of Florida. Finned-Smith was once again the team’s leader, putting in a night’s work which included 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals. The team, which is 5-8 on the road this season, now tries to grab an upset road win over the higher-seeded Colonials in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night.
The point spread for tonight’s game currently has the home team Colonials as two-point favorites. GW sports a 14-3 home record and has been 1-1 against the spread overall in the NIT and 0-1 as the favorite, while Florida is 2-0 overall and 2-0 ATS away from home in the NIT.
