Thursday’s Florida Gulf Coast vs. UNC live stream online and televised 2016 NCAA Tournament game pits a proverbial David versus a Goliath, as the Tar Heels begin their quest for another men’s basketball title. The Eagles get into this matchup as a No. 16 seed who won a play-in game in the First Four earlier this week. Now the 21-13 squad tries to become the first-ever team seeded at No. 16 to upset a No. 1 seed. Can this be the year that history is made, or will Roy Williams have North Carolina finely tuned up and ready to make a run deep into the brackets? The 2016 NCAA Tournament live streaming and televised tournament action arrives via TBS networks and March Madness Live apps.
According to a CBS Sports report on March 17, Florida Gulf Coast comes into this seemingly lopsided matchup with the Tar Heels, after blowing out Farleigh Dickinson on Tuesday by 31-points. FGCU which has been nicknamed “Dunk City,” got 20 points and 10 rebounds from starting forward Marc Eddy Norelia, who leads the team with a 17.3 points per game average. The team will now try to make history as they take on UNC not far from the Heels’ campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. If they somehow pull off the upset, it could mark the first-time that a No. 16 has taken down a mighty No. 1 seed. Back in 2013, Florida Gulf Coast made noise with a deep tournament runs a No. 15 seed getting all the way to the Sweet 16 round of games.
North Carolina also comes into this game led by a top-scoring forward, as Brice Johnson leads the team with 16.6 points and 10.6 rebounds a game. That could make for an intriguing matchup between he and Gulf Coast’s Norelia, who went 10-for-11 from the field in the First Four game win in Dayton. The Tar Heels come into this game rested but also just after they went on a nice surge to capture their first ACC Tournament title since 2008. During that postseason stretch, UNC’s defensive intensity on Notre Dame and the eventual No. 1 NCAA seed Virginia was top notch as they held those two teams along with Pittsburgh to just over 37 percent shooting. While FGCU certainly hasn’t been discussed to be the caliber of those squads, it’s likely that the No. 1-seeded Tar Heels and coach Roy Williams will be prepared to fend off any attempted early upset as they try to get to the next round.
Various sports books list UNC as a huge favorite today with the spread as much as 23-points in their favor at some books. Against the spread this past season, the Eagles were 19-14 overall and 9-4 as the underdog team, while Carolina went 17-14-3 overall and 13-12-3 as the favorite. Could that bode well for today’s challengers or will this be a huge blowout in favor of the Heels? The over/under points total is currently at 149 points for the game at various books online.
