Members appointed to “Flint Water Crisis Task Force” by Rick Snyder; Governor of Michigan, released a 116 page final report regarding the actions and involvements which lead to the “Flint Water Crisis”. The report outlines roles and recommendations for government entities involved in the venture of switching the City of Flint’s water supply from a compliant source, to a beyond treatable water source. According to a report by David Graham; “The Atlantic”, Michigan’s governor; Rick Snyder claimed, he took immediate action once he became aware of the problem also according to the Governor, blame for the dehumanizing treatment afflicted onto residents of Flint, lies with local governmental authorities or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s, failure to acknowledge reports of contamination.
Advisory members throughout the report refer to “Flint’s Water Crisis” as a “story” of governmental failures of all entities involved, including the state-appointed emergency managers which removed all checks, balances and public accountability. For the blatant racism involved the Task Force refers to it as “environmental injustice” by stating, “Given the demographics of Flint, the implications for environmental injustice cannot be ignored or dismissed.”
The Task Force report included a listing of “Prospective of Flint” from community leaders, mental health providers and such by expressing the outcome of actions, one in particular being;
“Among African American seniors, the protracted Flint water crisis echoes the tragic Tuskegee syphilis study and the decision not to treat smallpox among freedmen in the aftermath of the American Civil War. From this perspective, it is noted that measuring blood lead levels without removing the sources of lead from the environment—in this case, lead-‐tainted water—appears the equivalent of using Flint’s children (and adults) as human bioassays”.
Members of the Task Force has recommended immediate develop of public health programs for children found to have exposed to high levels of lead as well as, residents of the adult population. More details of the Flint Water Crisis Task Force Report
