This woman has to be mother of the year (sarcastically speaking); in Orlando, Florida, a woman was arrested after driving drunk with her 5-month child in the backseat but this was just the tip of the iceberg. I first heard this on the radio today on my way to work and thought at first it had to be some type of joke but it was far from that! Carlene Musselwhite, 22, was driving drunk when she decided to play chicken with oncoming traffic as she crashed into another driver and then sideswiped another vehicle around 9 p.m. on Thursday night. She left the scene and continued on her drunken warpath as she continued to hit parked vehicles, Eventually, Highway Patrol Police Officers managed to catch up to her and pull her over. At least, she had some common sense to strap her child in a car seat as opposed to him flying all over the place; but that was about all the common sense she had. When troopers pulled her over, she claimed that she was coming from an office party and that while she may have had a couple of drinks, she was not impaired to drive. Reportedly, officers stated that Musselwhite’s eyes were bloodshot and there was a strong smell of alcohol in the vehicle. And yet, that was still the tip of the iceberg.
Next, troopers performed not one but two sobriety tests and she failed both of them. But, she still claimed that she was not intoxicated and when troopers went to arrest her on suspicion of driving under the influences, she began ranting and screaming that she was on probation and could not go back to jail or else she would be imprisoned for 5-years. It is a safe to say that was the least of her problems. Next, she physically assaulted one of the officers by kicking him in the groin and when they finally got her secured in the back of the police car, she proceeded to kick at the back window. At which point, she continued to scream by informing the officers that she needed breast feed her son and therefore could not go to jail. This may seem like an odd justification by a mother to avoid going to jail but it is more common than one would think. I arrested a woman for shoplifting a few years ago, who had her infant harnessed to her chest. She pleaded that she could not go to jail because she was breastfeeding. She was given a ticket to appear in court instead of going to jail. Not only was this woman trespassed from the retailer but she was arrested about a week later at the same retailer but at a different location. Once again, she had the infant harnessed to her chest and pleaded with the other police department that she was breastfeeding and that she would never do it again. She was later charged with 2 counts of shoplifting and 3 counts of trespassing (apparently, this was the third time at the same retailer), and 4 counts of child endangerment.
Charlene Musselwhite faces charges of Driving under the Influences, Assault and Battery of a Police Officer, 2 counts of Hit and Run, Child Endangerment, and 1 count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Apparently, back in 2012, she threatened a male victim with a knife to his throat.
