Spit out your leftover Peeps and hit pause on Netflix, it’s time for unlimited beer. That’s right, Miami’s craft beer community is coming together again to pour their best at Sprung! Beer Festival this Saturday, April 2.
There’s no wrong way to enjoy the over-300-beer monsoon you’re about to embark on, but there are some (major) key points to get the most classy and luxurious experience and truly make it a super Saturday. Here we go:
I know, I know, you haven’t been able to pair your matching strappy sandals with your new cute shorts yet (and if you’re a guy, bust out your new awful cargo shorts, superhero tee and flip-flop casual wear), however, the more and more you go around the fest, the more your hundred-dollar footwear turns into some nasty dollar-store chancleta covered in “oopsies” and “excuse me” sticky beer residue. Things get sloppy sometimes, don’t let your feet be collateral damage.
The buddy system
Word spreads fast at beer fests, and you’re likely to start seeing some long lines forming around certain beer tables. It’s like they’re giving away free samples or something… oh, wait. Anyway, as the line gets longer, don’t use the time to talk to your buddy about how lines suck – take turns hitting the shorter lines and load up on quick samples so that (1.) you both are getting your cardio and (2.) by the time you get to the front you’re genuinely surprised you’re not at splash mountain.
Do you remember Hot Wheels (and or Thunder/Super)? If you’re skating around in a circle over and over again and you trip someone, laugh momentarily cause by the time you turn the corner you’re getting clothes-lined. Think of this beer fest as a tiny deserted island, we’re all working together Survivor-style to get drunk, so don’t get booted off for acting (like or as) a fool. Plus, have you ever felt a giant Jenga piece to the back of the head?
Save room for local love
Don’t be brand loyal – that’s what Budweiser and Corona fans are for. That isn’t to say, you can’t have favorites like Stone and Lagunitas, but give your up-and-coming home brewers a shot. Before M.I.A., JWB or Wynwood Brewing had their tap rooms, they were tapping your opinions and tweaking recipes at these beer fests. So, get adventurous and give constructive feedback … if you’re of sound enough mind to do so.
Play it safe
If you’re at the point where you’re wondering where in Coconut Grove you parked (even though the fest moved to Wynwood), yo, it’s time to get an Uber.
Sprung! Beer Festival is an unlimited craft beer tasting event on Saturday April 2 at the RC Cola Plant in Wynwood from 4 to 7 p.m. Ticket prices range from $40 to $70, with the higher priced tickets allowing early admission, VIP access and a souvenir pint glasses. [update: VIP is sold out, but beer socialite passes still allow early access]
