The fitness area in The Ford Community and Performing Arts Center is looking to start off 2016 with some big losers.
The DMC Wellness Center is holding its fifth annual Weight Loss Program Jan. 18-Feb. 29. Jan. 15 is the final deadline to register in the DMC Wellness Center office, located across from the service desk of The Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn.
At the same time, the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center is also spending this January offering a “New Year’s Resolution Special,” which is to reward purchasers of annual or monthly EFT fitness memberships during this month–if they commit to be fit. One person in a household would be selected by Jan. 31 at the time they sign up to begin the challenge, which requires all participants to have their starting weight recorded. The number of pounds lost in 2016 will determine the discount on their membership next year.
The DMC six-week Weight Loss Contest is open to all current Ford Community and Performing Arts Center fitness members, as long as they are at least 15 years old when they register for the six-week program (non-members of the The Center will be able to purchase a six-week membership–not including aerobics classes–at a discounted rate ($50 instead of the current $75 value) through Feb. 29. To register for the contest, entrants must pay a $25 non-refundable fee at the time of registration
During the weight loss contest, Club Room 1 in The Center will be hosting seminars and weekly weigh-ins to encourage the formation of of healthy habits this year.
“Our seminars will be going over things, like how to exercise properly, incorporate more activity during the day, and maintaining good nutrition,” said Angela E. Kulka, a rehabilitation trainer at the DMC Wellness Center. “It will include a fitness program that people will be able do with us.”
The DMC Six Week Weight Loss Contest will have first-place and second-place winners for the most percentage body weight loss (winners of last year’s contest can participate in this year’s Weight Loss Contest, but are not eligible to win two years in a row). These winners and prize give-a-ways will be at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 29 (the winners must be present to claim their prize).
Fitness memberships purchased between Jan. 4-31 will begin on the day which anyone signs up for the New Year’s Resolution Special. At the 12-month mark of the monthly EFT membership (or the day that any annual membership is renewed) during January 2017, the fitness member will get his or her weight recorded again. The number of pounds lost in 2016 will determine the discount on next year’s fitness membership (any monthly discount cannot be applied to the following month’s balance or exceed the monthly rate).
The New Year’s Resolution Special offer is not valid on previous purchases. Valid picture ID and birth certificates for all family members are required at the time of membership purchase, and corporate memberships will require proof of employment in Dearborn.
