The Fiesta Bowl 2016 live stream online and televised matchup will feature Notre Dame vs. Ohio State in a battle of two teams that each could have been a part of the college football playoffs. The Fighting Irish finished their season at 10-2 and ranked No. 8, while the Buckeyes finished with just one loss at 11-1 and No. 7 in the rankings. Now they’ll square off at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona for end of season bragging rights. The NCAA football live streaming and televised game coverage will arrive via ESPN networks for fans to enjoy on New Year’s Day.
The USA Today site reported on Jan. 1 that both teams were on the verge of clinching a playoff berth this season until failing to win in their final matchup of the season. Ohio State, who were the reigning college football champions, fell to Michigan State 17-14 at home to close their campaign, while Notre Dame, a team ranked in the top four, fell to Stanford 38-36 on the road. Now the two teams will settle for this consolation prize matchup, where the defending champs will be the favorites in Glendale, Arizona. Ohio State sports an impressive defense that allowed its opponents just 14 points per game, good for No. 2 in the nation in that category.
Today’s game also features quarterbacks who weren’t the initial starters when these teams started their campaigns. For Notre Dame, sophomore DeShone Kizer stepped in when Malik Zaire was struck by injury. Kizer has been great in his role at QB, throwing 2,600 yards and 19 touchdown passes for the Fighting Irish. The Buckeyes debated which quarterback was best for their team all season long, eventually going with T.J. Barrett. He racked up only 781 yards due to the fact Cardle Jones had been the starter more often. However, Barrett still tossed 10 touchdown passes and rushed for 11 himself to lead this team to their 11-1 season.
The odds for this matchup favored the Buckeyes at five points when the Vegas spread first opened. Since then, that number has moved up to 6-1/2 points in their favor at many sports books. Ohio State is priced as a -215 favorite on the moneyline, while Notre Dame will be +195 underdogs. The Fighting Irish have gone 2-0-0 this season as underdogs, while the Buckeyes are 5-7-0 as favorites. The over/under points total for this game currently sits at 58 points for bettors to consider.
