The month of January featured unseasonable warmth followed by an historic snowstorm, and ended with very mild weather across the region. February will begin mild with rain showers in Baltimore and Washington D.C. On the weather map this morning there is a weak cold front near the Appalachians. This front will move east during the afternoon hours and will bring considerable cloudiness and widespread rain showers to the area on Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be mild with highs in the mid 50s to near 60. Showers may linger into Monday evening, with partial clearing toward morning. Tuesday’s weather will be sunny, breezy, and cooler with morning temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s and afternoon readings in the upper 40s to lower 50s. On Wednesday, a strong flow of air from the south will develop ahead of a cold front that will push across central Maryland on Wednesday. This front will produce widespread showers and thunderstorms, some of which may produce torrential rains and damaging winds. Warm air surging northward ahead of the front will enable afternoon temperatures to reach near 70 degrees in Baltimore and Washington on Wednesday afternoon. In the wake of the front, colder air will overspread the area on Thursday and Friday with seasonably cold conditions and a slight chance of snow in southern Maryland on Friday morning.
