“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” will have its official grand opening on April 7th, 2016 and fans of Harry Potter are getting excited! The amazing new attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood is currently having what’s known as a soft opening or technical rehearsal right now. So guests at the theme park are sometimes lucky enough to be at the park for a sneak peak. The early opening gives the cast and crew a chance to practice and prepare for the crowds that will be coming in soon.
We have watched this amazing world being created for over five years. What can be seen over the fences and inside on the sneak peaks, is the J.K.Rowlings stories brought masterfully to life, with Hogwarts castle as it’s iconic focal point. The goal is to transport guests of all ages to the very places they read about in the books or saw in the movie versions. There will be two rides in this wizarding world: “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” and the first outdoor coaster at Universal Hollywood, “Flight of the Hippogriff.” A trip through the shops will add to the authenticity of the land: stores include Honeydukes, Ollivanders, Owl Post, Zonko’s Joke Shop, Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, Dervish and Banges, Gladrags Wizardwear and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods. From everything I have seen so far, the attention to details is awesome, and the characters seen practicing are movie worthy! I personally can’t wait to try the sorting hat, to see what Hogwarts house I would belong in, and of course a stop to Hog’s Head Pub is important too!
Food is going to be very important to the land, just as it is to Harry and his friends. Universals chefs will please the palate with an eclectic British menu of savory fare and beverages, served up at the restaurants in the town of Hogsmeade. The Three Broomsticks looks like an old rustic tavern and is warm and inviting. The menu that has just been announced includes Bangers & Mash (savory grilled English sausages with creamy mashed potatoes and minted peas), Shepherd’s Pie (ground beef and vegetables, crowned with potatoes), Beef Sunday Roast (prime rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding and gravy), Beef, Lamb & Guinness Stew and Fish & Chips. Rounding out the hearty fare are decadent treats such as Butterbeer potted cream and sticky toffee pudding. The adjoining Hog’s Head pub, where an animatronic hog’s head snarls at customers, features draught beers and spirits created exclusively for the land, including Hog’s Head Brew, Dragon’s Scale, Wizard’s Brew and Fire Whisky. For those not yet 21 years of age just say Accio Butterbeer! Non-Alcoholic Butterbeer, as well as pumpkin juice, pumpkin fizz and Gilly Water are also Hogsmeade beverage staples.
