Early Wednesday morning, a devoted pit bull stood guard by her owner who was injured in a house fire in Landover Hills, Maryland, reported NBC Connecticut News. Firefighters who responded to the early morning blaze noted that the dog was never aggressive, but she refused to leave the side of her owner in the residence and they had to use an extinguisher to help move her away from the man.
Even after the man was taken out of the burning structure and placed on the ground outside, the faithful dog went to his side and stood vigil.
The injured man was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation – according to his son, he is expected to be okay. Firefighters were also able to rescue turtles, puppies and a dog from the burning house; animal control took the rescued animals away from the scene.
The fire which destroyed most of the small house is believed to have started in a bedroom – the cause is still under investigation.
