Vanessa Lachey is still waiting to find out if her NBC sitcom, “Truth be Told,” will be picked up for a second season, but she’s got plenty on her plate to keep her busy in the meantime. The model, actress, and mom of two talked to Philadelphia TV Examiner on Jan. 27 about how she juggles motherhood with her career (in addition to her TV show, she recently partnered with Puffs to promote healthy living), and she also gave us the scoop on how she and her husband Nick Lachey carve out alone time with two toddlers in the house.
Lachey tells us she partnered with Procter & Gamble because she likes the “family first” message the company gives. “I always love aligning myself with brands that put family first, and Puffs Plus Lotion always has that message,” she explains. “It’s family first, and everything I can do to encourage other moms, other families to enjoy life together and not let other things get in the way, I’m all about.”
With a three-year-old son, Camden, and a one-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, in the house, the actress tries to remember that her little ones are experiencing some things for the first time, and that’s where patience comes into play. “To remind myself of that then helps me enjoy the time with them as opposed to trying to rush around and trying to be frustrated,” she says. Lachey also adds that while the birth of baby Brooklyn was a big adjustment for her then two-year-old son, it’s all good now. “You know, he was the firstborn,” she explains. “I will say he’s falling more in love with her every single day, but I’m not gonna lie, it’s not like she came out of the womb and he was so excited to have a baby sister. It was a process for us because he was our world and now we have two people in our world.”
Day Dates With Nick
Although her kids keep her active, this busy mom also has another great way to stay fit. “I know some people enjoy [working out],” she says. “I don’t enjoy it, but I also want to live a healthy lifestyle… I feel better when I am active and when I’m doing stuff to be proactively active. So Nick and I started doing day dates and going to the gym together. Twice a week we go together, and then once a week I go myself. And we go and we train for an hour and then we go have lunch. And it’s actually been the best thing.”
While the Lacheys used to indulge in date nights, the day dates are their new favorite way to spend time together. “Once you have two kids the last thing you want to do when 8 o’clock rolls around is get dolled up and go out,” Vanessa explains. “So we stay in and watch movies or one of our favorite TV shows on Netflix, and we’ll have dinner… [The gym dates] force us to get out of the house, twice a week, together. We go, we separately do our thing, then we do a couple of things together and then we have lunch and we get to catch up. We talk and it’s not 9 or 10 o’clock at night. It’s during the day, we try to schedule it during [the kids’] nap and it’s been really great.”
‘Truth be Told’ Truths
But what about her TV husband? Lachey says working with “Saved By the Bell” alum Mark-Paul Gosselaar on “Truth Be Told” has been a dream job. “I think everybody from my generation was a [‘Saved By the Bell’] fan,” she says. “I was honored to be able to act with him… I will say when I got to working with him it wasn’t like I was working with Zack Morris. I thought it would be that, but he’s done so much since then and he’s grown into such a man since that you honestly see Mark-Paul and then you’re like. ‘Oh yeah, yeah you used to have blonde hair tips and wear high topped sneakers!’”
While the fate of the show is in NBC’s hands and that the cast is still waiting on word for a Season 2, word should come soon. “Everything’s happening in the next two weeks,” Lachey says. “Trust me, I’m on pins and endless as you are. It was a great, great show that I absolutely…when I say I adored every single person on the crew and the cast, I mean that from the bottom of my heart, and I’ve never experienced something from top to bottom like this. So I don’t know, you never know in this industry… But we just have to kind of leave it at the mercy of the network and hope that it comes back. But if not, then I had a great experience and I’m back out there again. That’s the beauty of this town, and the fun part.”
