The folks who make EOS lip balm are being sued by a woman who claims to have very sore lips. The circular-shaped EOS lip balm is extremely popular with celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Hilary Duff and Britney Spears, but there is one woman who has filed a class-action lawsuit with claims that the use of EOS lip balm caused her much pain.
According to Us Magazine on January 13, Rachael Cronin has hired a lawyer who has represented other stars like, Mike Tyson and Chris Brown. Cronin cites in her lawsuit that the EOS lip balm caused her lips to blister, crack and bleed.
EOS comes in a different-looking container than the traditional ChapStick-type lip balm and it is a little more pricey in comparison. The lip balm’s popularity is driving the bus on sales, so it’s safe to say it’s probably been used on more than a million lips since first hitting the market.
According to News Max, the lawsuit claims that “within hours of using EOS lip balm, “her lips became substantially dry and coarse, like sandpaper, causing her to apply more of the balm on her lips to achieve the results of becoming ‘sensationally smooth.” Her lips then “began severely cracking on the edges, causing flaking and bleeding from the cracks, and by the next day there was severe blistering and rashes, causing her to seek medical care on Dec. 7, 2015. Her condition lasted for 10 days,” cites the lawsuit.
Since posting pictures of her damaged and injured lips on social media, she claims in the class action suit that “numerous” individuals have shared their health problems with her. Since Cronin’s original post showing the pictures of her dry and cracking lips, others have taken to the social media sites to post pictures of their own problems they claim to have with their lips from EOS lip balm. The claim that the lip balm has caused medical problems has been addressed by EOS. They say in their released statement:
“Some of you may have seen reports of a lawsuit filed against our company. We wanted to be sure that you, our valued customers and fans, know that the health and well-being of our customers is our top priority,” the company posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday, January 13. “Our products are safe to use, are made with the highest-quality ingredients and they all meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry. An independent laboratory puts each of our products through a battery of rigorous testing to ensure this is the case. For these reasons, we firmly believe this lawsuit is without merit, and we will continue to create new and exciting products that delight our customers. Thank you. EOS.”
