Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early and for an entire weekend with the return of the Irish Film Festival (IFF Boston) for its 16th year at the Somerville Theatre in Somerville, Massachusetts from Thursday, March 10 through Sunday, March 13. With the theme of “16 in 16,” the festival will be packed with over 45 diverse films all in the Irish spirit. The IFF Boston will tackle social, historical and political topics as well as tales of love and growing up. Julia Roberts, Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood of Harry Potter films), and Aidan Gillen (Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’) are among the reputable stars featured in these films.
Kicking off the film festival on Thursday, March 10 is ‘You’re Ugly Too’ directed by Mark Noonan and stars Aiden Gillen and Lauren Kinsella from the film ‘Albert Nobbs’ at 7:30 p.m. Special guests to kick off the evening is the Mayor of Somerville Joseph Curtatone and bestselling author Casey Sherman who appear in Boston films such as the Disney’s ‘The Finest Hours,’ ‘Boston Strong,’ and ‘Black Irish.’ Other acclaimed films during this tremendous weekend include ‘Older Than Ireland,’ ‘Michael Collins,’ ‘Garage,’ and ‘Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story.’ On Sunday, March 13, one of the featured films to close out the festival is ‘The Mayor of Boston, My Son’ about Mayor Marty Walsh. Celebrate the success of the festival with an evening of live music at The Burren, 247 Elm Street in Somerville, Massachusetts.
