A nine-day long campaign to save as many pets from euthanasia continues at Downey Animal Shelter in California. No dogs or cats will be euthanized for space for a week; the daunting task began on Friday. Volunteers stated 38 pets were saved; sadly 50 animals came in as strays or owner surrenders.
Shane’s War aims to bring positive solutions to overcrowded, high kill shelters across the country.
“Our goal is to not only empty the shelter”, said Shane Smith, Co-Founder of PAWS For Hope and Faith and Shane’s War, “but also to bring awareness to the plight of unwanted or neglected pets that find their way to the shelter.”
And so the work continues. With a special emphasis on the plight of senior dogs so often surrendered to shelters for just being too old, 16-year-old Missy caught the eye of Frosted Faces Foundation:
“Missy is 16 years old and was surrendered to Downey Shelter by her owners. She caught my eye because she didn’t have a lot of frosting, but was walking in a low slow squat in her kennel paralyzed by fear. When I inquired that is when I learned she was SIXTEEN, just dumped, and very scared. Missy is about 30 pounds- very small!”
In order to make Missy part of the Frosted Faces Foundation family, the following is needed. Won’t you consider helping?
