Here’s a typical office scenario that you may have had. You have a big presentation for potential clients but you are late because the presentation was on the other laptop you left at your office so you had to go back and fetch that one. Once you have arrived, you have the setup to do and hope you connect all the wires correctly. Now thoroughly exhausted, you must give the presentation without looking at your audience. Is there any way to make it easier?
WeKast has launched on Kickstarter a presentation solution that eliminates setup, while increasing mobility and engagement. With the help of your smartphone, the whole procedure sounds rather easy. The WeKast setup involves just three: 1. Plug the WeKast gadget into any screen (HDMI or VGA port ). 2. From your phone open the pre-downloaded app. 3. Select a presentation. This standalone solution can be brought into any meeting room and should work instantly. The only outside technology you need is the screen (monitor, projector) because it has its own built in power source and wifi.
So what kind of presentations? WeKast currently only supports ppt and pptx but they are working on integrating other file formats (pdf, doc, xls, Keynote, Prezi and more). How will it look? The slides are exactly as they were original formatted on the computer with all animation, fonts, colors, graphics, video and audio(embedded). The WeKast plug-in converts files into a mobile-optimized format which sends presentations directly to its Android and iOS mobile app. Users can then control the presentation from their device while keeping time using the apps timer and viewing presenter notes within the app.
What makes up a WeKast device? There are three ports: female HDMI, female VGA a nd Micro-USB. There is 1 GB RAM and WIFI 802.11 b/g/n secured by WPA2 enterprise. Internal rechargeable battery is DC5V/1A, 1200mAh. The battery can last up to 3 hours and can be powered through the charging micro-USB connector directly to the TV or projector. Personally, I would not recommend any presentation going three or more hours. Yes, there is a battery level indicator. As for security, Data with WeKast is protected and encrypted. No data is left behind on the dongle. All the data is stored on the phone which has its own security settings.
As of now, if you pledge $99 through the Kickstarter campaign you will get one WeKast. Pledge $169 and get the Couples Pack (Two WeKast) which is 43% off the expected price of $298. Rewards are set to ship to backers by January 2017. But you only have till May 10 2016 2:27 pm EDT to pledge and hope that a few others will join you so the goal will be met.
