If you were looking at the people in the throng surrounding Donald Trump the other night after he swept the primaries, you would have seen Willie Robertson very close on his left side. TheNewstar.com had the story on Thursday. Willie Robertson, the bearded CEO from “Duck Dynasty,’ is turning up everywhere you look during this presidential election cycle.
Robertson’s latest endeavor is a stint as a regular contributor on Fox News channel. Part of his duties will involve hosting a podcast, which is totally new to Robertson. (Is this the network’s way of telling him he has a great face for radio?)
Robertson endorsed Donald Trump early in the race, but his father, Phil Robertson, has been a staunch supporter of Senator Ted Cruz due to Cruz’s stance as a Christian conservative. The Robertson’s had previously backed Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana even past the time when his candidacy was obviously floundering. Jindal made a special appearance on “Duck Dynasty” before he announced his bid for the presidency. However, by the time Jindal threw his hat in the ring, the Robertson’s popularity had waned a bit and their support didn’t carry the weight that it once did.
Those watching Willie Robertson over the years have wondered if he has political aspirations of his own. He has appeared frequently on political talk shows and has fostered relationships with the movers and shakers in the conservative political arena. Now that he has a permanent place on Fox News, will he use that as a political springboard like Governor Huckabee attempted to do? Or, perhaps, in an even more interesting line of thought, how would a Trump-Robertson ticket sound?
