Donald Trump is defending the use of a clip from the Morocco boarder in his campaign ad to demonstrate what the U.S. southern border will look like if nothing is done. When Trump’s first TV ad came out on Monday there was an immediate backlash with what some were calling a gaffe in the ad’s geography.
Trump and his campaign manager both made statements on Monday that the use of the Morocco clip was purposely used because it demonstrates what chaos at a border resembles. Besides the geography lessons coming fast and furious from critics, another question being asked today is “Why ads now.” This was asked in the title on a Wall Street Journal piece on January 5.
Trump purchased air time for the ad in battleground states because he’s coasted to front-runner status on the free publicity and he feels bad for his rivals who have to pay for the same type of publicity. “Honestly I feel guilty. All these people are spending all this money on ads,” said Trump. The GOP front-runner talked in front of a near capacity crowd at Tsongas Center Arena Monday night in the mostly blue collar city of Lowell, Massachusetts.
NBC News describes why Trump’s campaign ad is so striking as it breaks away from the traditional look of a presidential run. He’s not sugar coating a thing and he’s not handling his target problems with kid gloves. Trump gets to the point and uses the words that best describes the nation’s problems whether it is seen as politically correct or not.
So why is the ad so striking? NBC writes, “The ad includes pictures of the villains Trump harps on while campaigning: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton Islamic terrorists and illegal immigrants. The text in the commercial lists Trump’s very controversial policy ideas.” They continue, “The ad should remove any doubt about Trump’s intentions to win the GOP nomination by appealing to voters who are deeply concerned about terrorism and illegal immigration, and favor very aggressive ideas that are opposed by most Democrats and many Republicans.”
Trump’s recent remarks basically conveys that Hillary Clinton doesn’t have a leg to stand on when calling Trump out about his treatment of woman. She has no wiggle room for doing that when she not only stands behind her husband, but has him campaigning for her. Trump is quick to note that Bill Clinton’s history with women is disturbing.
The real estate mogul is saying things that need to be said about Hillary while not another presidential candidate seems to want to go there! When it boils down to it Trump is very in tune with who he is running against and that is Hillary Clinton.
The other Republican candidates can poke at one another, but to win this election, the GOP candidate is going to have to rise above the Clinton legacy ingrained the country’s democratic party. Trump’s willingness to call Hillary out on these controversial issues such as her husband’s inappropriate relationship with women in the past is building him momentum.
Some are saying Bill Clinton’s misdeeds have nothing to do with Hillary’s 2016 campaign, but it appears Trump, along with many others beg to differ. If Hillary wants to attack Trump and attempt to paint a picture that he doesn’t respect women, then Trump is going to mow over her backyard looking to point out her husband’s weeds again. Who disrespects women Hillary? A thought that might just cause the Democratic front-runner to back off Trump in that respect.
