On the northbound 5 Freeway in Elysian Park, rescuers, including firemen and police officers, had their hands full after a multi vehicle crash included a rescue truck carrying 15 puppies turned over, reported NBCLosAngelesNews.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night. At least four of the dogs escaped from their cages and ran loose on the freeway. One person was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, however all of the dogs were rescued and none were injured. Cathey’s K-9 Rescue Facebook page posted the following announcement earlier Sunday morning: “Hi followers to night I got a call every one fears Nancy Cathey was in a horrible traffic accident a drunk driver had hit her in the rear end and she spun out and flipped over a few time resting upside-down. after coming back from one of her adoption events she had to be cut out of the vehicle and was transported to emergency hospital in LA the truck was a total loss. All the dogs were accounted for and picked up by local rescues and animal shelter so if you guys are following her thank you very much we will be in contact with you as soon as possible. So please put Nancy in your prayers tonight.” A Gofundme account has been set up with donations going directly to Cathey’s K-9 Rescue.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. One of the driver’s involved may have been driving under the influence.
