In Fort Worth, Texas, a bartender moved out of his apartment last month and just left his dog inside to starve to death, reports the Star Telegram.
Justin Rubio, 28, was arrested on Sunday on a state jail felony warrant for cruelty to an animal after authorities tracked him down. The apartment manager at the Monticello Crossroads Apartments, where Rubio had lived, found the dead dog on March 4. According to police, the dog had been alone in the apartment for “several weeks.” Animal Control found empty bags of dog food in the apartment. Rubio had been a bartender at Reservoir in Fort Worth since 2012; he was fired on Monday. Rubio has been released on $3,500 bond.
Authorities want to remind everyone there is never any excuse to abandon an animal. Rubio could have made the choice to give the dog away to another family or take the dog to a shelter and surrender him. Rest in peace sweet dog.
