After 10 years, Tracy Dove had no reason to believe that she would ever see her missing German shorthaired pointer, “Charlie,” again. The dog had disappeared from her Alabama home when he was just one year of age and efforts to find him were fruitless, reported Friday’s WSPA News.
Amazingly, the dog who vanished from Dove’s yard so many years ago recently turned up on the stairs of a church near Brewton, Alabama. On April 22, the non-profit organization, Souls On Board Rescue Ride, described the dog’s condition when he was found, “Found two days ago on the porch of a church (we’re thinking the word “miracle” is called for here!), emaciated, dehydrated and in severe pain, it seems he was hanging on with everything he had and begging for help.”
The ailing dog was taken to a veterinary clinic where his embedded microchip was discovered – thankfully, Dove’s information was up to date, which allowed for staff to contact her. Dove’s response to the incredible news is quoted in an ABC News article, “I was shocked and at first I thought ‘This has got to be a scam’ because it’s been 10 years. They sent me a picture and I talked with them, and it’s my Charlie.”
Unfortunately, Charlie’s health is too poor for him to make the lengthy trek to his owner. Right now, donations are being collected to help Charlie get the veterinary help that he needs in order to be healthy enough to be reunited with Dove.
