Tracey Dove, the owner of Charlie, a German shorthaired Pointer, is getting a miracle most dog owners of missing pets can only dream of. After 10 years, Dove’s beloved missing dog was found on the steps of a church near Brewton, Alabama, more than 250 miles away from home.
Dove’s dog Charlie went missing 10 years ago from their home in Cullman and the dog owner assumes that someone stole her dog because they are favorites among hunters. One-year-old Charlie was the family’s pet and he was microchipped.
Despite her fears that her missing dog was dead or at least would never be found again, Tracey never gave up hope. For the past decade, Dove continued to update her information for the microchip.
No one knows where the missing dog spent the last 10 years, but last week, Charlie was found on the steps of a church near Brewton in southern Alabama – 250 miles away from home. A church neighbor had noticed that a dog had been on the church steps for three days and he alerted Renee Jones, the Rescue Director at Souls On Board Rescue Ride.
When Jones found the dog on the church steps, it was clear that the animal was in dire need of medical attention since he had visible health issues, including a huge mass on his side. After Charlie was taken to the Springhill Veterinary Clinic, he was scanned for a microchip.
When Tracey Dove’s phone rang last week and the veterinary clinic told her that her missing dog was found, the dog owner hardly believed what she heard after 10 years.
“I was shocked, overwhelmed. I cried,” Dove said. “It’s amazing.”
“He’s too weak and sick to make the trip home, so I am going to stay down there with him until he’s well enough to come home,” she added. “And then he’ll be my dog again.”
