Sunday’s Djokovic vs. Murray live stream online and televised matchup will be the Australian Open 2016 men’s final, with one of these two stars taking home the trophy when all is said and done. After knocking out some of the best of the best for the men’s draw, the world’s No. 1 will now take on the No. 2 in the game to try to capture his first Grand Slam of the tennis season. Will the Serbian star add yet another accolade to his already lengthy resume, or will Great Britain’s pride and joy score the upset? The 2016 Australian Open men’s final live stream and TV coverage arrives through ESPN early Sunday.
According to BBC Sport in their Jan. 30 report, this will be the fifth time that the world’s No. 2 player Murray is a part of the final for the year’s first Grand Slam in men’s tennis. He lost previously in 2010’s final to Roger Federer, who Djokovic eliminated in the men’s semis. Murray also lost in 2011, 2013 and 2015 to the man he’ll face again on Sunday, Novak Djokovic. Murray realizes he’ll once again be the underdog in this matchup and told the media ahead of the meeting, “I don’t think many people are expecting me to win. I have to just believe in myself.”
For Novak Djokovic, a win Sunday brings him his sixth Australian Open title and would tie the mark set by Roy Emerson. It would also mark the 11th Grand Slam title for Djokovic in a legendary tennis career so far and tie him with Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver. Djokovic told the media, “These are the kind of matches that you work for. These are the kind of occasions that define you as a tennis player.” To make it to this final he ousted Roger Federer 6-1, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in brilliant fashion, while Murray bested Milos Raonic 5-6, 7-5, 6-7(4-7), 6-4, 6-2 in a grueling semifinals matchup. Now the two meet for their 31st time in their storied careers.
