Spreckels Theatre Company will be entertaining families at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park with their production of the Broadway musical “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” opening tonight. “Children will enjoy many aspects of the Spreckels Theatre Company musical production of ‘Disney’s The Little Mermaid,’ but when they see Ariel ‘gliding’ onto the stage live, right in front of them, I expect their jaws to drop,” said Spreckels Theatre Company Managing / Artistic Director, Gene Abravaya.
Spreckels Theatre Company’s main stage production of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” is a musical for all ages, featuring vibrant costumes, exciting choreography and many theatrical surprises. “I was very excited to produce this charming fairy tale musical, which has always been a particular favorite in my family. I remember taking my children to see the Disney film version and being almost as excited as they were while watching it,” said Abravaya.
This production is starring Julianne Thompson Bretan of San Rafael as Ariel, The Little Mermaid; Jacob Bronson as Prince Eric; Mary Gannon Graham as Ursula; Fernando Siu as Flounder; Sean O’Brien as Scuttle; Robert Finney as Sebastian; Steven Kent Barker as King Triton; and featuring a large ensemble cast of sea creatures, sailors and members of King Triton and Prince Eric’s courts. Music Direction by Tina Lloyd Meals, choreography by Michella Snider and costumes by Pamela Enz.
“The effects are similar to what we have developed for earlier productions. Using our projection system, we are not limited to live action. We can enhance and expand the activity on the stage, and by doing so, add an element to the production that no one else can,” said Abravaya.
