Walt Disney World Resort will add some character-focused entertainment experiences to its theme parks. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will debut two different meet-and-greet opportunities this spring, Disney announced Feb. 16, while Magic Kingdom will offer a new Castle show this summer.
The Celebrity Spotlight character experience will take place at the Echo Lake district of Disney’s Hollywood Studios in spring 2016. The meet-and-greet is described as presenting character living out their Hollywood dreams. The experience kicks off with Olaf, the huggable snowman from “Frozen.” In keeping with the snowman’s personal “In Summer” dream, Olaf will interact with guests against a beach backdrop. Celebrity Spotlight is described as allowing guests to “step into the scenes” with favorite Disney characters, although the Disney Parks Blog notes Olaf is expected to appear “for the foreseeable future.”
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will meet guests at their own experience, one that reflects their A-list status. “Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams” will be located on Commissary Lane near the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. Disney guests will walk a red carpet to meet Minnie, who will appear as a Hollywood starlet. Mickey will appear as his iconic role as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from “Fantasia.”
This summer, Magic Kingdom will debut a new show on the Cinderella Castle stage that will be the successor to the current “Dream Along with Mickey.” Called “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire,” the Disney stage show will feature Mickey Mouse and friends for what Disney calls “a tale of friendship” that incorporates songs and characters from such contemporary films as “Princess and the Frog,” “Tangled” and “Frozen.”
“Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” will be presented several times each day. According to Disney, the show follows this loose storyline:
From the land of the bewitching bayous, Goofy has invited Princess Tiana, Naveen and Louis to add a little spice of New Orleans jazz to the party. Donald Duck brings some new friends he met in the land of the enchanted woods, where Daisy Duck introduces us to her special guests, Rapunzel and Flynn. Finally, Mickey Mouse shares a surprise with Minnie Mouse, as he has traveled to the land of the mystic mountains to invite Olaf, Princess Anna, and Queen Elsa, who swirls a blast of her icy magic.
Walt Disney World Resort has not yet released official opening dates for Celebrity Spotlight, “Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams” or “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire.”
“Dream Along with Mickey,” which has run 10 years, will have its last performance April 2, 2016.
