Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts, Devil You Know and up-and-coming tourmates ONI, will not be playing Boise on the current Make America Metal Again tour. Fear not Treasure Valley fans, they will be just a short drive down the road at Diamondz Event Center in Jerome, Friday April 22, and for those out east they will be in Idaho Falls on Saturday. Tickets for Friday’s show at Diamondz are only $15 and are available here. Showtime is 7pm. Also on the bill will be One Second Till Forever and Broken Omen.
Devil You Know began its young existence in 2012 as a side project for drummer John Sankey (Devolved) and guitarist Francesco Artusato (All Shall Perish). The duo began kicking the tires on song ideas, and eventually reached out to former Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones. Jones liked what he heard but was initially reticent about any commitment to joining a band. As the songs and project evolved Jones gave in and joined the group. The band’s debut, The Beauty of Destruction, was recorded and released to unexpected success. Bassist Ryan Wombacher (Bleeding Through) was added to the line-up in time for their first tour.
Now with two years of touring together under their belt, Devil You Know has released its sophomore album, They Bleed Red, and what began as a project has solidified into a true band. This week, Devil You Know hit the road to headline its Make America Metal Again Tour which hits Jerome, April 22.
Francesco Artusato will be appearing on the debut album from ONI, and he shared with Examiner his excitement over bringing them out on this tour. You can hear the full interview above.
Jake Oni founded his namesake band in 2014, and joining him in his vision are bassist Chase Bryant, drummer Joe Greulich, and guitarists Martin Andres and Brandon White. Adding a unique dynamic to the band is xylo-synth player, John “D”. The sextet balances a dynamic mix of progressive, extreme, and melodic metal elements in their sound, managing to create an intriguing familiar yet fresh feel. Oni tells AXS/Examiner that those who come out to experience the band for the first time can “expect a lot of killer riffs, a lot of shredding, crazy progressive music, a lot of melody, a lot of catchy stuff, a lot of heavy stuff—just the whole package.”
While few outside the City of Angels have seen or heard about the band, the buzz is certainly building. Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe lays down a cameo performance on ONI’s upcoming eponymous debut record, as does guitar virtuoso Francesco Artusato (Devil You Know, All Shall Perish). The latter met the band through producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Gojira, Megadeth) who produced Devil You Know’s last album, They Bleed Red, and is handling production duties for ONI as well. Artusato liked ONI so much, Devil You Know is dragging them out on the Make America Metal Again tour which kicks off on April 15. “It’s gonna be great,” enthuses Oni. “The tour’s gonna be very heavy, and it’s gonna be pretty kick a**.”
