If you are looking to celebrate the Oscars in style, look no further than the Oscar Party happening at The Maple Theater in Bloomfield Hills this Sunday night!
Many movie-lovers know that The Maple Theater and its sister theater, The Riviera in Farmington Hills, are two of the best places in the Metro-Detroit area to catch a movie. But what many don’t realize is that The Maple is also home to one of the best and hippest new restaurants around. This Sunday, Feb 28, The Maple will be hosting a special Oscar-themed night, combining dinner and of course, the live-telecast of the 88th Academy Awards.
There are three reservation times available for dinner – 6:00 pm, 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm – followed by a four-course meal. Dress in your best and enjoy dinner, live music, a photographer and a cash bar and then make your way into the theater to watch the Oscars live on the big-screen. Dinner is a pre-fix menu (an appetizer, salad, main course and dessert) and soft drinks, coffee, tea and popcorn is included throughout the event. It is priced at $39.95 per person.
Members of the Detroit Film Critics Society (DFCS) will be on-hand hosting the night’s festivities, with raffles during commercial breaks and rounds of movie-themed trivia. They will also be tying in the night’s activities in with social media, where guests at the Oscar Party will be able to interact on Twitter as the DFCS Live Tweets the Oscars from their Twitter account, @detfilm.
The DFCS has been making a concerted effort in 2016 to really interact with the local movie-going public, and to engage with them in all things movies. This event is the third event that the DFCS has hosted/sponsored at The Maple Theater since November, having hosted a “James Bond Night” around the release of “Spectre,” a Coens Brother event and pre-screening of the recent film, “Hail, Caesar!” and now this Oscar Party. The group plans on hosting more in-theater events and is actually going to be hosting the April 7th edition of the Maple’s popular “Secret Cinema” night, where avid fans can show up to see a classic Hollywood film on the big-screen, without knowing in advance what movie they might show.
The DFCS has also launched a new Podcast, “Far From Hollywood,” which has had seven episodes as of today, the most recent of which was an Oscar Preview with host Chris Williams and fellow DFCS member and Leadership Committee member Patrick Dunn. With their unique ties to the movie studios and film industry, the podcast will continue to engage in deep film discussion, movie reviews and celebrity interviews, like the recent interview of co-directors Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson (“Anomalisa”).
So how do you RSVP for dinner and for this Oscar Party? Visit the theater and ask for a manager, or call 248-855-9091 to make your reservations. Please note that the 8 pm dinner time is for in-theater dining only.
Tickets and Dinner reservations are going to fill up fast, especially because on Friday morning, DFCS member Lee Thomas will be chatting with Patrick Dunn and DFCS President Tom Santilli on FOX-2’s popular morning show, “The Nine,” and will be promoting the Maple’s Oscar Party on live television. So get your dinner reservations set today and plan on spending the Oscars at The Maple!
