Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department Senior Services presents state Rep. George T. Darany (D-District 15) monthly 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays, starting January 22 in The Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
Local residents are invited to stop by this week for a visit and share their ideas and concerns with Darany in the Dearborn Senior Lounge. One of Darany’s legislative staffers, Bill Drake, said that representative has been dropping by for five years, and people will usually fill up the lounge to participate in the sessions.
“It’s open for folk to stop by, and share their concerns, talk about issues, and ask our help on problems,” Drake said. “There are some people who are just going there to exercise, and they will share their view with Rep. Darany if they happen to see him while going by, so they’ll come in to say hello.
“There will be talk about the gas tax, and sometimes people will have questions on their taxes. We’re trying to be accessible, because that’s an important part of this business,” Drake said.
Besides this month’s meeting, others are scheduled for Feb. 26, March 18, April 22, May 20, June 24, August 26, Sept. 23 and Oct. 28. Drake explained that participation is “pretty low” during the summer, but that the representative still wants to come to the Dearborn Senior Lounge to at least meet with people in August, and the November and December sessions would happen during Thanskgiving and Christmas weekends.
“He still wants people to know that he is still open to go out for coffee and meet one-on-one with anyone who wants to share a concern or bring a legislative idea to him,” Drake said.
Darany’s legislative office will bring information booklets, maps, official state tourbooks, and other information to these meetings with constituents in The Center, Drake added. He also noted the Dearborn Senior Lounge always has coffee available for 50 cents as well as brochures provided by the city of Dearborn.
Anyone wishing more information on these 2016 dates can call the Dearborn Senior Center at (313) 943-2412 or Darany’s state representative office at (517) 373-0847.
