David Starr is no longer with NASCAR Xfinity Series multi-car team TriStar Motorsports, according to a recent announcement from the race team. J.J. Yeley, another drive with Tri-Star has been moved over to the No. 44 formerly driven by Starr. According to the announcement from the team, Yeley’s position as driver of the No. 44 is until “further decisions are made.” The first race since the announcement is Saturday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
“We have made significant changes in an effort to improve our overall prgroam,” TriStar Motorsports owner Mark Smith said. “With our commitment to our sponsor, we felt that an immediate change was necessary. We have every confidence in the team we have assembled, and we will continue to pursue our competitive goals. We wish David all the best in his career, and we will announce further plans as they are confirmed.”
Yeley raced the No. 44 in place of Starr at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway on April 23, but for that race, reports had Yeley in a substitute role because Starr was ill. Starr, with TriStar Motorsports since 2015, departed the team 20th in the Xfinity Series driver championship standings after competing in seven of eight races.
