For music fans who want something new but in the realm of Rock, Dark Water Rebellion is your band. Self-described as Southern Goth/Dark Americana/Alternative Folk-Rock, this band is a must hear.
Dark Water Rebellion is: BRENT GORCIE: lead vocals / guitar / cigar box guitar. DANIELLE ROMANOWSKI: drums. FABIAN ABARCA: bass guitar. NICK SMITH: banjo / harmonica / acoustic guitar and DEREK MCLEAN: lead guitar. I had the chance to chat with the voice of Dark Water Rebellion, Brent Gorcie. Here is what he had to say to us about the band.
Rockwell UnScene: When was the band formed?
Brent: January 2015.
Rockwell UnScene: Where is Dark Water Rebellion from and where are you now?
Brent: So many different places, but the band originally formed in Delray Beach, Florida, and now we are located between Venice Beach, San Diego, and Las Vegas.
Rockwell UnScene: What is your sound/who have you been compared to?
Brent: Southern Goth/Dark Americana/Alternative Folk-Rock. We’ve most often been compared to Morphine or the True Detective soundtrack.
Rockwell UnScene: Who have you played with and who do you want to play with?
Brent: We’ve mostly played with other touring bands (Soda Gardocki, Green Mantles, The Punknecks, etc.) in the same boat as us, and many local bands (Everymen, Shotgun Betty, Heather Nation, Gina Gleeson, etc.) to whatever area we are playing in. We would love to be the opening act for a successful national touring band (i.e. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Mark Lanegan, Wovenhand, Murder By Death, etc. would be great!)
Rockwell UnScene: Who are your music influences?
Brent: Trent Reznor, John Lee Hooker, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Jim Morrison.
Rockwell UnScene: What are you doing now as far as shows, eps, albums?
Brent: We are currently working on our first full length album – recording and mixing in our mobile studio on our bus. We currently have an EP we are selling at our shows which has a few songs that are being re-recorded with the current lineup and will be reissued on the new album (among a bunch of other new songs). We are booking on the West coast actively, between San Diego, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
Rockwell UnScene: Are there any personal fun, road tour stories that you want to share?
Brent: The most unique thing about our road experience is that we are living aboard our converted 1984 Greyhound bus full time. The bus experience itself is full of stories – from minor mishaps on the road (tire blowouts, getting stuck up northern California hills, and a window almost blowing off the bus) and the reactions at shows and driving around town. We have also met some great people, bands, and been surprised by the music scenes and venues in some cities. A big highlight was getting a great review by Morat while we were in Las Vegas! Rockwell UnScene: What would you say to someone who has never seen you live to get them to your show?
Brent: It’s dark, it’s swampy, and it’s raw.
So there you have it – all things Dark Water Rebellion. This band is a new band and will soon be a household name. It really is a treat to hear something different in music and have it done right and that is what Dark Water Rebellion does. Be sure to check them out and see them when they hit a stage near you.
