Get ready for glitter and spray tans, dance fans, because “Dancing with the Stars” 2016 premieres March 21 on ABC. Each of the 12 participating couples will begin season 22 on equal footing as they hit the ballroom to perform one of five different dance styles –cha cha, tango, quickstep, jive, or fox trot– but just one holds front runner status, according to Vegas odds posted to Bovada Sportsbook on March 20. So who has the winning edge?
With +200 odds of taking the title, mixed martial artist Paige VanZant enters “DWTS” 2016 as the contestant to beat. The 21-year old fighter, who makes up Team #PowRightintheKisser with two-time show winner Mark Ballas, will open her time on the show with a fox trot to Jess Glynne’s “Ain’t Got Far to Go.” For her part, VanZant is excited about taking part in the show; a March 20 photo she tweeted to followers features her with a handful of her co-competitors and the text “Feeling absolutely blessed!!! @MarkBallas @DancingABC #DWTS22”
With +400 odds, one of the season’s three NFL stars is second-most likely to take the trophy at season’s end. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who is matched up with season 21 runner-up Sharna Burgess, will look to inspire fans with a week one quickstep to Pitbull’s “Bad Man.” Two other men –Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris and Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller– follow in the rankings with identical +700 odds. The two men will open the competition with two very different dance styles: while Morris performs a “Motownphilly” cha cha with Lindsay Arnold, Miller will fox trot to “My House” with season 19 winner Witney Carson.
A glut of competitors will start the season in the middle of the pack, as a whopping five of them hold +1200 odds of victory. Included in the mix are “The Facts of Life” alum Kim Fields, who will dance a week one cha cha with Sasha Farber; TV personality Geraldo Rivera, who will cha cha with Edyta Sliwinska; actress Mischa Barton, who will tango with Artem Chigvintsev; “America’s Next Top Model” winner Nyle DiMarco, who will cha cha with Peta Murgatroyd; and “Fuller House” star Jodie Sweetin, who will tango with Keo Motsepe.
Finally, the last three celebs bring up the rear with the slimmest shots at winning “DWTS” 2016. With +1800 odds, former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie is third-least likely to take the honor. He will open his time on the show with a “Sweet Caroline” fox trot alongside Karina Smirnoff. Just below Flutie with +2000 odds is “Good Morning America” weather anchor Ginger Zee, who will dance a week one jive with season 20 pro champ Val Chmerkovskiy. Last but not least, actress Marla Maples –the former wife of US Presidential candidate Donald Trump– enters the season with field-worst +2500 odds of victory. Maples and Tony Dovolani will try to quickstep their way into America’s heart on premiere night.
“Dancing with the Stars” 2016 kicks off March 21 on ABC. Who will impress and who will struggle right out of the gates? Tune in and find out.
