Coinciding with National Dance Week (April 22-May 1) is Audience Architects’ fourth annual Chicago Dance Month (April 1-May 1). “Chicago is known for so many of its cultural talents, whether it is theater, food, visual art or music. We want to make it known that Chicago is also a dance city that has some of the most unique and talented companies on an international level,” notes Audience Architects Executive Director Heather Hartley. “Chicago Dance Month allows the city to experience its own world-class talent by showing the community a sneak peak of the large scope of diverse dance that is offered on a year-round basis for free or reduced prices.” For more information, visit SeeChicagoDance.com.

Local and national dancers and organizers join forces with The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago for B-FunkyFresh (April 8-9). Celebrating hip hop and street dance culture, the mini-festival is free and open to the public. “Whether you are a veteran street dancer who has won international titles or someone who has never set foot inside ‘the scene,’ we invite you to participate: rocking out to the infectious music from your proscenium seat, head-bobbing on the edge of a cypher where you can feel the heat and sweat of the dancers, grooving out in a corner with your friends during the open dance moments or throwing down in the center of the battles,” says Kelsa Robinson, B-FunkyFresh co-curator and Venus Fly member.
