The foodie war at sea continues. Cruise lines seem to be in a battle ‘for’ the bulge—so-to-speak—creating new restaurants, recipes and hiring big name chefs to create more exciting fare. And not a moment too soon. For years some of the food on ships was plentiful but drab. That is c hanging with tides. Today, April 26 , Cunard announced new dining options as well as a host of enhancements to the all the dining venues during Queen Mary 2’s major refit taking place in June. It’s calling it Queen Mary 2 Remastered and it will usher in an entirely new Carinthia Lounge that will serve alternative breakfast and lunchtime offerings together with bespoke premium coffees. There will also be the addition of The Verandah restaurant evoking memories of the famous Grill on the original Queen Mary; a completely transformed Kings Court Buffet; new Queens and Princess Grill menus and completely refurbished restaurants for guests staying in the suites and a new Smokehouse alternative dining concept. The chefs will also refresh the menus in the Britannia Restaurant and Golden Lion pub as well as the Afternoon Tea selection served in the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar.
Many of the new menus are being created and tested at a specially-commissioned new Development Kitchen which has opened in Cunard’s homeport of Southampton. Here, teams of chefs have been working with other culinary experts and suppliers to create a wide range of new dishes to be served on board. “At Cunard, we pride ourselves in delivering a culinary experience that continuously exceeds guest expectations and illustrates Cunard’s utmost attention to detail,” said Richard Meadows, president, Cunard North America. “We are pleased to debut refreshed culinary offerings on Queen Mary 2 Remastered, which we have created to appeal to the most discerning guests while revitalizing classic dishes and creating new ones.”

New menu items in The Verandah on board Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth will be introduced through 2016.
With all the new delicious food, and chefs such as Curtis Stone, Nobu, Guy Fieri, Jacques Pepin, Nobu Matsuhisa, Thomas Keller and more strutting their culinary talents on ships, passengers will have to start hitting the gym more often to battle ensuing bulges.
