The freezer sections of grocery stores and warehouse clubs overflow with tempting choices of convenience foods, such as Crazy Cuizine. They’re quick and easy to make and generally cost around $10.
Add a bag of veggies, and the meal still costs less than many home-cooked meals containing meat, seafood or poultry. Each box of Crazy Cuizine contains four 5-ounce servings, though a family of four may actually need two boxes plus a bag of veggies, depending on how much everyone likes to eat. The company offers a wide selection of Asian-inspired choices that go from freezer to plate in a matter of minutes.
One of Crazy Cuizine’s unique offerings is their Chicken Tikka Masala, which comes complete with boneless chicken pieces, sauce and white rice. Families may want to add more rice along with a veggie on the side to complete the meal. This dish was tasty and had just the right amount of kick to it.
It was also super easy to prepare. Just sauté the chicken in a frying pan, thaw the rice in the microwave and defrost the sauce under running hot water. After cooking the chicken, add the sauce and stir to combine well. The meal took less than 20 minutes to prepare, including roughly 5 minutes of prep time.
Mandarin Orange Chicken
The Mandarin Orange Chicken tasted fabulous and was incredibly easy to prepare. Just bake the white meat chicken breast nuggets in the oven for about 15 minutes, then mix with the included orange sauce, or dip the nuggets in the sauce. They’re also scrumptious without any accompaniment, featuring crunchy goodness on the outside and tender, mouth-watering chicken on the inside.
The Pork Potstickers were absolutely delightful. A 6-year-old tester especially enjoyed these tasty little Asian dumplings filled with shredded pork and couldn’t get enough of them. The potstickers came with a packet of topping that seemed like soy sauce, but the potstickers tasted fantastic with or without the topping.
Potstickers, which are a lot like wantons and use the same wrappers, can be prepared in numerous ways, such as microwaving or pan frying, or made into soup by simmering them in broth. Microwaving is the quickest way to cook them, taking about 5 or 6 minutes from freezer to plate.
Fast food comparison
Convenience foods continue to gain in popularity not only because they’re convenient. Some of them, such as Crazy Cuisine, are also delicious, much less expensive than fast food and lower in fat and calories than drive through meals.
Comparing nutrition facts from Crazy Cuizine to fast food shows striking differences. The Crazy Cuizine products generally range from 220 to 260 calories for a 5-ounce serving, with 7 grams of fat. A 3.4-ounce box of McDonald’s six-piece Chicken McNuggets contains 280 calories and 18 fat grams.
Plus, McNuggets generally go hand-in-hand with French fries and a soda, adding to the already heavy calorie and fat content. In addition, fast food isn’t all that cheap anymore. A family of four would likely spend more than $20 for a McDonald’s meal.
Crazy Cuizine products are available at most BJ’s and Costco stores nationwide. The Chicken Tikka Masala variety is also now available at Sam’s Club. The author receives sample products for use in this honest evaluation.
