This weekend brings the Whiskey Rebellion to Cambridge’s Central Square when it takes place at Monrow at 450 Massachusetts Avenue. It’s a treat for whiskey afficianados with 75-plus different purveyors of fine whiskies and an hour-long class (12:15-1:15 p.m.) that’s already sold out.
The tastings take place at 2:30 until 5 p.m., after the class, and include spirits from a large group of purveyors and suppliers. Among the whiskies at Whiskey Rebellion will be:

The event is put on by Aaron Cohen of Somerville, MA and is a celebration of American brown spirits, their producers and suppliers. Tickets, priced at $42 per person, include the opportunity to sample 12 of the whiskeys, attend the cocktail demos, and enjoy the snacks.
The now sold-out class ($67 pp.) creating an educational ABCs of American Whiskey class takes place before the main event (12:15PM-1:15PM). At the class, attendees will get a primer of the various categories of American whiskey, the history, geography, chemistry, and, of course, tasting. Those in the class will leave armed with a foundation of knowledge to build upon during the Whiskey Rebellion sampling event, Cohen explains. Participants are subject to change. The event is limited to those 21 years of age and older. A Whiskey Rebellion t-shirt is also available.
This weekend is also Mohegan Sun WineFest, 2016 – a three day event starting Fri. Jan. 29 with a 6 p.m. Bourbon Tasting. Also, the Donelan Family wine tasting with Tuscany’s tapas platter takes place at 7:30 as well as the Withers Winery Tasting and Bar Americain dinner.
Saturday and Sunday, the Grand Tastings begin at noon with a broad array of wines. Saturday evening is also the Celebrity Chef Dine Around. This year, the celebrity chef at Sun WineFest is Rocco DiSpirito.
On Saturday afternoon, Jan. 30, there will be celebrity chef demonstrations from Rocco DiSpirito, Todd English, Michele Ragoussis, and Betty Frasier and Manoushka Gurriere. At 11:30 a.m. there’s a Chacewater Vineyards tasting and also, a Fullcrum Winery Tasting. The Saturday Grand Tasting takes place from noon to 5 p.m.
Sunday sees more chef demos starting at 12:30 p.m. with Laurie Forster, The Wine Coach, Chef Sara Moulton at 1:15, Chef Brian Duffy at 2 p.m., Chef Dante de Magistri at 2:45, Chef Chris Coombs at 3:30 and the Oyster Open at 4:15. As on Saturday, the Grand Tasting runs from noon to 5 p.m.
The event brings an estimated 40 winemakers and 30 breweries to Mohegan Sun.
