The author tested the Quest mock quarter zip base layer over a period of six weeks at a variety of ski resorts. Beginning at Squaw Valley during a warm and dry February the base layer was matched with a medium weight insulated jacket. The Coldpruf quarter-zip was quite form-fitting, which worked perfectly whether worn alone or as a first layer. It runs true to size and the extended sleeves and tail kept the author covered at all times. During daytime temperatures that ranged up to 40F, moisture wicking came in handy in keeping the author dry. Opening the zipper worked well to remove excess heat. After a long day of skiing, the quarter-zip still had a fresh smell. When the weather finally got a little colder, wearing the quarter-zip as the first of three layers worked equally well. During several cold stormy days at Alta, Utah, the zip again proved to do a great job as a first layer under a heavily insulated jacket. Kept zipped during the entire day, it went a long way towards keeping the author toasty. The brushed inner layer was soft against the skin and also helped retain heat. At the end of three days of skiing, the zip still did not harbor any funky smells. While the Quest quarter zip was only tested on the ski slope, it would work equally well during a variety of other winter sports.
The Quest mock quarter zip base layer did an excellent job of providing warmth whether used as a stand- alone layer or as a base layer in a multi-layered system. The anti-microbial treatment kept the garment smelling fresh even after several days of use.
