Do you ever feel out-of-the-loop in a group conversation? Does it seem as if everyone understands what is being said except you? Do you have a quizzical look on your face when other people are laughing or you are laughing and other people are incensed? Perhaps you cannot hear the “Dog Whistle”? This code language is meant to include or exclude certain races, ethnic groups, economic class, religion, education and social levels as well as political persuasion. What comes into your mind when you hear the words thug, welfare, Muslims, ghettos and unemployed?
Dog whistle language allows politicians and everyday folk, to speak to friends, family, colleagues and voters without having to say the words black, African American, Mexican, Islam or poor. Using words such as “those people”, inner city, neighborhoods and ghettos, people in the United States automatically know that African Americans and other poor and marginalized people are the topic of conversation. To bring you “up to snuff” here are some code words and phrases meant for only certain ears. See if you belong.
‘itis’ is a slur used at the end of a word against African Americans. This refers to slaves having the feeling of being tired and hungry and in need of sleep after their slave day. By using ‘itis’ at the end of a word is another way of saying the “N-word”.
States Rights is a ploy used to allow states to individually provide laws against African Americans. This takes the burden of denying integrated schools, housing and employment by the federal government and allowing each individual state to continue segregation and other laws to further demoralize and hinder already marginalized people.
Super-predators, a word used by presidential hopeful and former first lady Hillary Clinton in a speech, “They are often the kinds of kids that are called ‘super-predators.’ No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about how they ended up that way but first we have to bring them to heel.” She is speaking of African American children without saying the word black and bringing them to heel in the school to prison pipeline.
Bugger is a slur directed at homosexuals. It began referring to what was called Bolgarian Sodomites and the Bogomils who led a religious sect during the Middle Ages. Bulgarus then morphed into the word bugger.
Illegal Alien is a slur directed at Mexicans suggesting that they are a burden on the pristine life in the United States. Presidential hopeful Donald Trump paints the picture of Mexicans as criminals, murderers, drug dealers and rapists.
Shariah Law and Radical Islam is used to vilify opinion against people of the Muslim Religion who are often brown or black and from the Middle East or Africa.
Law and Order, Neighborhood Policing, More Cops on the Street are code words for continuing modern day slavery of African American men, women and children in the For Profit and Kids for Cash Prisons. These prisons commit African Americans to long and harsh sentences for low-level or committing no crimes at all. This forces them to work as slaves for nothing and providing profits for law makers, judges, law enforcers, prison owners and private businesses. Some companies who benefit from the modern day prison slavery system of African American men, women and children are: Whole Foods, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Sprint, Lehman Brothers, Aetna, JP Morgan Chase, New York Life, Fleet Boston, Canadian National Railway Company, Brown Brothers Harriman, Barclays, AIG, IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT&T, Target, Revlon Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, Pierre Cardin, Macy’s, Pierre Cardin, Nordstrom’s, Intel, TWA, Compaq and Dell.
