You can travel all over the world seeking excellence in an entertaining experience, and find it at home, in your own backyard. Such is the case with the professional theatre company, CityRep in Oklahoma City.
For over fourteen years they have been providing the highest quality of staged concerts, musical theater and regular plays to an appreciative audience. They have been recognized by the New York based American Theatre Wing, who is better known for their Tony Awards, when they presented CityRep a National Theatre Award and grant. They credited CityRep of having “Articulated a distinctive mission, cultivated an audience and natured a community of artist in ways that strengthen the quality, diversity and dynamism of American Theatre.”
Recently CityRep has produced such outstanding productions as Grapes of Wrath, Avenue Q, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and special celebrity engagements. Last year CityRep brought Patti LuPone to Oklahoma City for her one-woman show, which was the highlight of that Oklahoma City Theatre season. LuPone brought her adoring audience the aggressive and dramatic offerings, for which she is known.
More recently they brought in the Broadway legend, Bernadette Peters to perform her concert to a most enthusiastic audience. Peters stage presence and vocal talents were much stronger than you might think of a performer of her age. Despite suffering from a cold or allergies that night, she delivered the same song characterization that have pleased audiences for years.
On June 18th, CityRep brings the incomparable Mandy Patinkin to Oklahoma City with his one-man musical concert. An Emmy and Tony winning Broadway and TV star, he has received accolades from The New Yorker with, “Mandy Patinkin is in the business of shows stopping.” His show, “In Concert: Dress Casual” includes Adam Ben-David on the piano.
CityRep says its mission,”is to serve Oklahoma’s diverse artistic, educational and civic needs by providing dynamic professional theatre. We entertain, enlighten and inspire! Our vision is to be a vibrant regional theater that is vital to the cultural, educational and economic life of Oklahoma.”
Take a look around as excellence may be in your own backyard !
