Last minute shopping on Christmas Eve is inevitable for some folks, who have the art of procrastination down pat. These are the shoppers who want to know what time the stores close on Christmas Eve and if any stores are open on Christmas Day? Another holiday question people search for during the holidays is; “Are restaurants open on Christmas Day?”
As far as Christmas eve shopping goes, a safe bet would be to get your shopping done by 6 p.m., as this is the average closing time for many of the big stores, with one major chain staying open as late as 11 p.m. in some locations. And yes, a few stores will open on Christmas Day nationwide. As far as restaurant’s go, some nationwide chains are open on Christmas Day to cater to your appetite, according to Go Banking on December 21.
The last thing anyone wants to do is shop some more on Christmas Day but maybe there’s that unexpected guest who will now be dropping by with gifts and you have nothing in return for the surprise gift giver. Or maybe your family is ready to go to Grandma’s when you learn Aunt Tilly is coming after all, despite being adamant she couldn’t make it and you don’t have a thing to give her, so what do you do?
There’s another popular scenario that plays out in many households when it comes to Christmas dinner. Things are going great, but you forgot cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, napkins and even salt or pepper, but all the grocery stores are closed right? Well most of them, but there a still a few places that will be open for business.
What about going out to eat on Christmas Day? Not many places are open, but Applebee’s,
Denny’s, IHOP, Pizza Hut and Subway restaurants are your best bets for food and take-out. Many of these nationwide chains will have locations open, you just need to call ahead to make sure.
Believe it or not there are a few stores open on Christmas Day, although it is slim pickings, a few nationwide chains will open for business. You are not going to find a Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kmart or Stop and Shop open, but the stores that are open offer enough merchandise so you can find a gift for just about anyone on your list or pick up a missing food item for your Christmas dinner table!
According to Go Banking on December 21, these stores will open for business and while some may have reduced holiday hours, they are expected to be open. It can’t hurt to call ahead to make sure and get their hours of operation for the holiday on December 25.

Retail and Grocery Stores Open on Christmas Day 2015: Go Banking lists these five nationwide chain stores that are expected to be open in most of their locations on Christmas Day, which includes Albertsons, CVS, Family Dollar, Walgreens and 7-Eleven.
Anyone who has a Walgreen’s nearby is in luck because this is a store that carries a treasure trove of items! Many corner stores and convenience stores will be open, you just have to check with your favorite local corner store or mom and pop store. If you don’t feel like leaving home for the store, follow the “Saturday Night Live” ladies’ suggestions in the video above about things you can find around your home to wrap up for that last minute gift. Once you are done with the video, chances are you will head for the store!

According to CBS News, last minute Christmas Eve shopping goes up to 11 p.m. for some Target Stores, where other Target stores will close at 10 p.m. Walmart will close its nationwide locations at 8 p.m. with Toys R Us staying open until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. If you need to get all your shopping done on Christmas Eve, do it by 6 p.m to be on the safe side. The 6 p.m. closing time seems to be the average time picked for the rest of the big stores on the night before Christmas to shut their doors for the holiday!
