The San Diego Chargers are taking on the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night, December 24, 2015, at the O.co or Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California. Game time is 8:25 pm EDT and the game is on “Thursday Night Football” on the NFL Network and local CBS affiliates with announcers Phil Simms and Jim Nance along with sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.
This Thursday night NFL game is a tough sell in Week 16 as both the Chargers and the Raiders are out of the playoffs this season. But it is a NFL game and it’s on Christmas Eve. So if you are tired of talking with the relatives and need a break just tune in the game and it should be a decent high scoring contest because both teams have bad defenses that give up plenty of points and both teams have quarterbacks who average two TD passes a game.
- San Diego Chargers +5 at Oakland Raiders (O/U is 47 points)
The San Diego Chargers are just 4-10 this season and they come into this Week 16 NFL match-up as a 5 point underdog to beat the Oakland Raiders on the road. The Chargers have wins this season over the Lions, Browns, Jaguars and Dolphins. The Chargers have losses to the Bengals, Vikings, Steelers, Packers, Raiders, Ravens, Bears, Chiefs twice and Broncos.
It’s not saying much when you are 4-10 but the Chargers have lost seven games this season by a touchdown (8 points) or less. Despite being 4-10 this season, Philip Rivers is 92-66 lifetime in the NFL as a starting QB and he’s having a pretty good year. Rivers leads the NFL in passing attempts and completions and he’s thrown 26 TDs vs just 12 interceptions this season.
The Oakland Raiders are 6-8 this season. The Raiders have wins over the Ravens, Browns, Chargers, Jets, Titans and Broncos. The Raiders have losses to the Bengals, Bears, Broncos, Steelers, Vikings, Lions, Chiefs and Packers. Four of the Raiders losses were by six points or less.
Derek Carr is just 9-21 lifetime as a NFL starting QB but he has improved from 3-13 last season to 6-8 this season. Carr threw 21 TDs last season and 12 interceptions and this season he has improved to 30 TDs vs just 11 interceptions.
The over/under for the game is 47 points. The Chargers average 20 points scored per game while the Raiders average 23 points scored per game. The Chargers are giving up 25 points per game and the Raiders are also giving up 25 points per game this season.
This Christmas Eve NFL “Thursday Night Football” game could turn out to be a very watchable game. Derek Carr and Philip Rivers have thrown for a combined 56 TDs this season. The Chargers and the Raiders have two of the worst defenses in the NFL so this could turn out to be a fun high scoring NFL game on Christmas Eve that could be highly entertaining. Will that be the case? Tune in Thursday night to find out.
