Updated March 29, 2016 – This show has been extended thru Thursday, April 7, 2016.
Dining with royalty, partying with rock icons and acting with British comedians provides intimate access to famous faces. Model, actress, writer, muse and photographer, Carinthia West shares her intimate visions of her celebrity friends in Looking Back is the New Forward. This glitzy photography exhibit runs thru April 7, 2016 at KM Fine Arts in Los Angeles, along with Endorsement – The Unseen Cobain Photos. Pop in Tuesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. It’s free.
Raised by aristocratic art-loving parents, West was exposed to royalty, diplomats and British VIP’s. During London’s Swinging Sixties, Beatles photographer, Robert Whitaker, discovered her at a bus stop on the King’s Road when she was only 16 and introduced her to his flat mate Eric Clapton, who she eventually photographed. Long-legged and blonde, West soon became a model and actress. Behind the scenes, she candidly captured her illustrious circle of colleagues: Mick Jagger in Malibu, George Harrison with a parrot in Australia, Shelly Duvall on the set of Three Women, Eric Idle in Barbados and Keith Moon at an Island Records event, to name a few. She also zoomed in on David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, Ron Wood, Roger Daltry and Linda Ronstadt.
Her Los Angeles connections were equally dazzling. In the 1980s, she co-starred with Anjelica Huston in a play, shared an apartment with Helen Mirren (a willing young subject) and eventually became the style editor of the L.A.Weekly.
Take a trip back to the past.
