What’s better than flowers and candy for Valentine’s Day? Concert tickets of course. Although the concert season will kick off in full gear next month, there are a few classic rock acts that will play in the Phoenix area in February. Here is who is coming.
February 13 and 14th, 2016 at 8 p.m. SMOKEY ROBINSON at the Wild Horse Pass Casino Ovations LIVE! Showroom in Chandler. He was the go to man for writing a Motown hit. It’s no miracle that he really got a hold of you. Seeing tears from a clown might make you second that emotion. But ooo baby, baby, what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend by catching one of his shows. Tickets run from $80 to $199 plus fees and taxes.
February 13, 2016 at 7 p.m. STEEL PANTHER at Livewire in Scottsdale. They may have only been together since the year 2000 but they are all about the glam rock acts of the 1980’s. Parody has never sounded so funny, or filthy. If you’re not offended by off color lyrics and like your rock loud, this will be one of the most enjoyable concerts you’ll see. If you are offended, there is always Smokey. Tickets are $26.60 plus fees.
February 16, 2016 at 7 p.m. GEOFF TATE’S OPERATION MINDCRIME at Livewire in Scottsdale. He was the original singer for Queensryche and his songwriting and vocals propelled albums such as “Operation Mindcrime,” and “Empire,” into multi-platinum sellers. With his new band, Tate and company released a new album in 2015, “The Key.” But you can expect to hear “Operation Mindcrime” in its entirety as well as selections from “The Key” and some other Queensryche hits. Tickets are $38 plus fees.
February 20, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. FRANKIE AVALON at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Chandler. He is the original teen angel. Don’t ask why your Venus went from bobby sox to stockings. Just so long as she’s not a beauty school dropout, she’s worthy of taking to the show. You can imagine yourself going back to the beach where you played beach blanket bingo. Tickets are priced from $42 to $62 plus fees.
February 20, 2016 at 8 p.m. THE TUBES at the Talking Stick Resort Showroom in Scottsdale. No need to talk to you later. If you’re a former white punk on dope, then you know she’s a beauty. Don’t want to wait anymore? Have amnesia? Then buy your tickets before they sell out. It’s a homecoming as the boys in this band are all local with lead singer Fee Waybill having attended high school in Scottsdale. Ticket prices are $25 and $35, plus fees.
February 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. MEGADEATH with Suicidal Tendencies, Children of Bodom and Havok, at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix. This should be a nice, quiet evening out, if your idea of nice and quiet is thrash-metal. They just released their latest album, “Dystopia,” but you can expect a symphony of destruction as well. It’s somewhat of a homecoming for this band too as bassist David Ellefson resides in Scottsdale and leader Dave Mustaine used to live in Scottsdale. Tickets are $49.50 plus fees and taxes.
