Puppies bring unconditional love, fun, happiness and comfort to many households across the country. Their unconditional love provides warmth, a companion and a warm furry feeling knowing a puppy was rescued from a shelter or a terrible fate in the hands of people at kill shelters and from animal abusers. Adults and children find a deep sense of comfort, love and friendship on a daily basis when they spend time playing and relaxing with their little four-legged bundle of love.
Colleen Paige back in the year 2006 declared today, March 23 as “National Puppy Day”! She is a famed animal behaviorist and author. As the creator of this special national holiday she encourages people to be reminded to adopt a puppy and not shop for one at a pet store with an official motor stating: “adopt instead of shop!”She is also the founder of “National Cat Day” and “National Dog Day”. This is a special day that brings puppies, children and adults together in harmony.
Today is a great day to also raise awareness about what is happening to these little ones who are raised by backyard breeders, are put in unsafe shelters or are part of a puppy mill with horrible conditions that often kill the animals when they are no longer fertile to breed any longer. There are more than 8,000 breeders and mills across America that supplies puppies to pet stores. Very few of these animals have had good lives, before they arrive and are desperately seeking a good home life that is full of fun, play time and unconditional love from a new owner.
Adopting a puppy is a wonderful way of providing the countless puppies out in the world that have been neglected, abandoned or abused. For some people adopting isn’t an option, depending upon where they live, certain apartment or condo buildings don’t allow pets to be present. Instead of adopting these individuals can always donate to the cause by sending money to a local shelter for supplies, volunteering time at a shelter or make others aware of how they feel by helping animal welfare organizations that fight to end the cruelty of puppies.
Share the puppy love and capture the moments forever in your hearts. Enjoy each day with the puppy that is brought home and saved from being neglected, show the puppy just how much love, enjoyment and care that can be provided as they grow into a healthy, sweet and loving dog. Capture all those special moments on camera or video to share with friend and family. Puppies don’t stay tiny forever and those early days as so precious as all the days of their lives are when they are fully grown. It is nice to see just how big the puppy has grown through photos collected in just a short time. Provide a healthy beginning for the puppy by providing healthy foods that are made of natural ingredients. Proper daily exercise is also important for a well-rounded puppy.
Raising a puppy is a big responsibility. Plan ahead before adopting a puppy and know the decision to adopt is right for you and your family before taking action. Puppies don’t remain puppies for long, so remember to learn all you can about how large the puppy will grow when it reaches adulthood. Enjoy every moment with your puppy and share your love, time and compassion. In no time at all the puppy will recognize your affection and will return it back to you ten-fold with their faithfulness and unconditional love, you will treasure forever and not just on “National Puppy Day!”
