Clevelanders get one more chance to celebrate this year’s local maple syrup crop and at the same time herald the arrival of Spring at the 87th annual Geauga County Maple Festival in Chardon, Ohio being held on Thursday, April 21, Friday, April 22, Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. Most of the activities are free but there are some fees for a few activities ( amusement rides and the pancake breakfast among them).
Taking place on the historic Chardon Square, the Geauga County Maple Festival offers a wide range of activities that is sure to please visitors of all ages. Pancakes in the Park (served with real Geauga County maple syrup) will be offered in the Festival pancake tent on the Square on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. for $8. The breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, two sausage links and a drink. Children 6 and under eat free when accompanied by a paying adult.
During the Festival there will be free live entertainment with music provided by Paul Kovac & Friends, Jasmine Dragons, Family Dog and the Chardon Polka Band. Among some of the activities will be an arts & crafts show, a baking contest, a kiddie tractor pull, a pancake eating contest, a children’s talent show, Tug ‘O War, a maple syrup and candy contest, a pizza eating contest and two “Sap Runs” (one mile and 5 miles).
Other special events include an invitational lumberjack competition, the crowning of the Maple Queen, a maple syrup auction, a karaoke contest and the must-see bathtub races down Main Street on Chardon Square. The Festival will also hold a Grand Parade (with a theme this year of “Sweet Sign of Spring”) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Festival will feature amusement rides. Wristbands are $15 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and $20 on Sunday. Individual ride tickets will also be sold for $1 apiece.
Hours for the Geauga County Maple Festival are noon -10 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is available on and around Chardon Square for approximately $5. You can also hop aboard a free shuttle bus from the Sheetz Shopping Plaza (11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday).
