The Canton Charge (19-13), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers fought back in the fourth quarter to defeat the Iowa Energy (14-17) 115-105 on the Charge’s home court at the Canton Memorial Civic Center last night. Canton now has fourteen wins out of their last sixteen games and this seven in a row streak ties a franchise record for a second time this season.
Neither team could gain dominance in the first quarter as six lead changes and five ties kept the teams neck and neck. With .3 seconds left Canton inbounded the ball to Michael Dunigan whose jumper filled the net as the buzzer went off.
The second quarter began much like the first until Canton managed a 7-2 run taking a 32-26 lead. As the half came to a close, Canton was ahead 55-49 due to 28 out of 30 points coming from the bench. Iowa took advantage of a flat footed Charge as they went on a 12-0 tear with five out of six shots hitting. Canton called a time out, regrouped and began climbing out of the hole as the bench made fifteen to take the lead (83-80) as the fourth quarter began.
It was all Charge bench in the fourth with Michael Dunigan, Nick Minnerath and Sir’ Dominic Pointer playing the entire 12 minutes as the Charge was good for 64% from the field leading by as much as 15 points on their way to victory.
Minnerath was top scorer with the team high 31 points as he hit for 12-of-19 with eleven rebounds in 32 minutes of playing time. He was also perfect at the free throw line hitting five for five adding to his 49-of-50 tries. Pointer was good for 14 points shooting 5-of-10 with six boards and two blocks during 27 minutes of playing time. Michael Stockton put in eleven points with eight assists in twenty two minutes.
Iowa Guard Andrew Harrison came into the game averaging 21 points against the Charge and hit a game high 36points as he went 13-of-22 from the field. Alex Stephenson earned a double-double as he scored eighteen points with seven rebounds in 37 minutes of playing time. Terry Whisnant and Patrick Christopher shared a total of 27 points as they hit 11-of-22.
The next Charge game will be at home on Saturday, Feb. 20 against the Raptors 905 with tip off at 7 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Timofey Mozgov winter hat courtesy of KeyBank. Don’t forget the Kids Zone and postgame autographs both presented by Constellation.
