It was starting to look pretty grim for the fellows in yellow as the fourth quarter began. For most of the game the starters had kept Canton close as they had done in the previous ten wins and it looked all roses for the home team at the half with the Charge leading by a slight margin of 53-49.
In the beginning of the second half Fort Wayne dominated and outscored Canton 38-25 with a nearly unstoppable offense as they hit 13-of-24 shots for 54% with just one turnover. Indiana Pacer assignment Shayne Wittington netted 13 points in the third and was 3-of-4 from the bonus arch and Terran Petteway added his 12 points worth off the bench as the Mad Ants took an 87-78 lead into the fourth quarter.
It was here that the coaches sent out the dream team who locked down Fort Wayne by allowing just nine points on 3-of-18 shooting for 17%. Canton’s team of Juvonte Reddic, John Holland, Nick Minnerath, Chris Crawford, and Michael Stockton stayed in for the entire twelve minutes outscoring the Mad Ants 29-9. By allowing just nine points, the Canton Charge tied a season low for points allowed in a quarter.
Thus the Canton Charge (23-13), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (15-21), 107-96. This win extends the team’s franchise record winning streak to 11 games. An excited crowd of 3,036 of which all had received a LeBron James Fathead screamed their approval making the Canton Memorial Civic Center the hopping place to be for a Friday night. This is the ninth straight win against Central Division opponents and is the eighteenth victory out of twenty games. The game also had a visit from the University of Akron Zip Girls who helped pass out the fatheads and performed with the Canton Charge Girls.
Minnerath earned player of the game honors as well as his eleventh double-double of the season on 26 points and ten boards in 28 minutes of court time. Reddic hit his second double-double in just the last three games with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. Stockton excelled once more with 17 points, seven boards and eight assists and John Holland added his share of 16points, four boards and four assists in 37 minutes of playing time.
Fort Wayne’s Petteway finished off the game with a team-high 26 points going 8-of-18 shooting and six boards. His teammate, Whittington added 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes of assignment play. Fellow Pacer Rakeem Christmas dropped in 15 points with 6-of-10 shooting taking two steals in 33 minutes on assignment.
