In December 1988 the American death metal band, Cannibal Corpse crashed onto the Buffalo, NY music scene. Although the band has had limited prime time exposure on television and radio, in 1991 the band began to gain a cult following. Shortly after the release of “Butchered at Birth” Cannibal Corpse had achieved world wide notoriety in the death metal industry.
Over the years, the bands artwork and lyrics have been heavily influenced by horror fiction and films. Several countries throughout the years, have banned the sale, music play and even display of the bands original albums. This act of trying to downplay the bands greatness, only increased the talk about the band. Even though the countries tried to put out the cannibalistic flame, it only helped the fire spread.
In Germany, all of the bands albums up to “Tomb of the Mutilated” were banned until 2006. Forbidden to play any song from these albums, the band continued to work around the limitations placed on their art. Several other countries tried to limit the bands artistic style of incorporating horror fiction into music. However, this act did not dissuade the band from putting out artistic music that could be turned into gruesome horror movies. Eventually, most of the bans were lifted and the band could project, play and promote their unique horror filled artistic view again.
In 2011, the band released “Global Evisceration”, a live video album. This live video album includes the hits Evisceration Plague, Hammer Smashed Face and Death Walking Terror. As a documentary about heavy metal music, this video gave Cannibal Corpse the opportunity to explore a deeper version of their unique art. Life on the road is not what people might expect it to be. The documentary does well at showing that the guys have an immense respect and an appreciation for their fan base. In this sixty minute documentary, you get a personal view of what life is like on the road and on the stage for the band. The video also includes bonus material, live performance and great music.
