California Pizza Kitchen has recently introduced a new “Next Chapter” menu at its four Boston-area locations including Prudential Center, Linden Square in Wellesley, South Shore Plaza in Braintree where we recently visited, and the Natick Mall in Natick. The newly expanded menu is part of CPK’s transformational “Next Chapter” initiative, currently being introduced to CPK locations nationwide.
We had dinner recently at the Braintree location where we got started with one of their new cocktails (blood orange sangria, please), a deliciously light and fruity drink that was the perfect transition into springtime. The Bianco flatbread here should not be missed. The starter featured whipped truffle cream, gorgonzola and mozzarella topped with fresh sage. We loved the avocado club egg rolls, which remain a popular staple on their menu for good reason. Each crispy roll was stuffed with chicken, tomato, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese and applewood smoked bacon served with a creamy herb ranch and spicy ranchito sauce for dipping.
Next up, we tried the simple yet delicious five cheese and tomato pizza made with a gooey combination of mozzarella, smoked gouda, Pecorino Romano, Monterey Jack and fresh mozzarella. Their Next Chapter menu here includes a juicy fire-grilled ribeye cooked to our medium rare liking topped with house made pinot noir sea salt, creamy bleu cheese butter served with roasted fingerling potatoes and a lemon-garlic wild arugula salad. Other dishes on the menu include hearth-roasted halibut, wild caught from Alaska and roasted on a cedar plank with butternut squash farro, grilled asparagus and baby kale.
The roasted Brussels sprout and bacon flatbread was incredibly flavorful topped with applewood smoked bacon, sweet caramelized onions and creamy goat cheese. If you prefer to stick with tradition, don’t miss the slow roasted Bolognese spaghetti.
